Richard Wright QC & Glenn Parsons Defend Father Found not Guilty of Murder

A father and son have been found not guilty of murdering a man from Scarborough, with the father, represented by Richard Wright QC and Glenn Parsons, convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Barry Rewcroft admitted stabbing Shaun Atkinson 56 times at his home on December 27 but denied that he had intended to kill him or cause him serious bodily injury.

Character witnesses spoke on behalf of Barry Rewcroft who described him as ‘jovial’ and ‘gentle’.

Speaking of the day Mr Atkinson died, Barry Rewcroft told the court he had taken a knife from his kitchen and kept it up his sleeve “purely for protection”.

Following a two-week trial at Leeds Crown Court, the jury found them both not guilty of murder. The father was found guilty of manslaughter and was sentenced to 13 years.
