Catherine Moxon specialises in crime. She is experienced in both prosecution and defence work, and is a Grade 2 prosecutor.

Notable cases

R v Powles – Defended a s.20 assault resulting in 90% loss of sight to a minor, caused by the discharge of a firearm.  The case involved the instruction of a ballistics expert, complex legal questions of recklessness and accident, and difficult issues in cross-examining young children.

R v Tiernay – Prosecution disclosure junior in a case involving accusations of multiple historical familial rapes and sexual assaults.

R v Powers – Defending a s.18 assault made especially complex due to mental-health sensitivities and witness reluctance.

Training & Education

Catherine currently tutors on the BPTC and LLB Courses teaching Criminal Law, Criminal Litigation, Advocacy, Conference and Professional Ethics.

Catherine is an experienced External Examiner and a BPTC Professional Ethics marker working for the BSB.

Catherine is trained to teach advocacy, noted for her “calm and grounded” style.  She is experienced in teaching students and the Police ranging from junior officers through to officers dealing with road traffic fatalities.  She is available to design and facilitate training in the form of traditional lectures or interactive workshops on a range of topics.

She and a Senior Lecturer are jointly responsible for maintaining standards across two major university BPTC courses. Catherine has also taught courtroom skills, been a mooting judge and BPTC mentor.
