Nathan is a CPS Level 2 Panel Advocate known for his meticulous case-preparation and client-led approach. He has a burgeoning Crown Court practice and significant experience in the Magistrates’ Courts. Nathan regularly deals with serious and complex cases including conspiracies relating to the theft of vehicles and serious assaults in a domestic violence setting.

Nathan accepts instructions for prosecution, defence and in the Youth Court, having previously worked as a volunteer panel member at Durham Youth Offending Service he is adept at communicating and engaging with young people. His focus on case preparation ensures that he is well-suited to consider all legal issues including those relating to disclosure, dismissal and bad character.

Following his career as a Kalisher Intern at the Criminal Cases Review Commission, Nathan has significant experience in appellate law from the Magistrates’ and Crown Court. During his time at the Commission Nathan provided advice on a number of significant cases on matters of disclosure, hearsay evidence, victims of trafficking, joint enterprise, adverse inferences etc.

Nathan has a developing inquest practice and has experience in both jury and article 2 inquests. He is available to represent a range of interested parties from bereaved families, public and private bodies and other interested persons.

Nathan’s client-led approach and meticulous case preparation are well suited to identifying any issues, in particular as to any potential Regulation 28 concerns.

Nathan has already developed significant inquest experience. He regularly represents prison healthcare providers in article 2 inquests arising from a death in custody; and has experience in representing families at inquests arising from a clinical negligence setting. Nathan’s practice includes dealing with all aspects arising from the inquest including: disclosure, written submissions and pre-inquest advice.

Nathan is known for his forensic case analysis, client-led approach, and focused submissions. Nathan has particular experience in dealing with claims arising from Road Traffic incidents and is adept at dealing with all matters including liability and quantum.

Nathan accepts instructions to the following:

Prior Career

Prior to commencing his pupillage at Park Square Barristers, Nathan was a common law pupil at Zenith Chambers. He was supervised by John Boumphrey and Tom Storey and observed civil, employment and crime.

Before commencing pupillage, Nathan worked at the Criminal Cases Review Commission as a Kalisher Intern. He regularly undertook legal research and case analysis on a wide spectrum of significant and complex criminal cases, whilst also managing his own caseload. During his employment at the Commission Nathan was also involved in the Commission’s outreach work, focusing on youth justice.

Whilst at university Nathan was a pro bono legal assistant for the defence on the Radovan Karadzic Appeal. He researched and drafted grounds of appeal, under the direction of Defence Counsel Peter Robinson. Nathan was also a member of the County Durham Youth Offending Volunteers Service and regularly sat as a panel member, engaging with young offenders who were sentenced to Youth Referral Orders.
