Paul has extensive experience in dealing with serious sexual offences, particularly cases involving vulnerable and young witnesses. His ability to handle victims and witnesses in a sensitive, thoughtful and caring manner is well regarded. He also deals with cases involving serious violence, such as Manslaughter and Attempt Murder, complex fraud and organised crime conspiracies. He prides himself on his preparation and case handling.

Paul not only has prosecution experience but has extensive experience in handling the most serious of Defence cases, involving Attempt Murder, Manslaughter, S.18, Rape and complex organised crime prosecutions and frequently appears as the lead Defendant in multi handed cases. He has also been led in seven murder cases.

Prosecution

R v L D (2020) – Successfully prosecuted violent rapist who would assault, sexually assault and rape the complainant.

R v C T (2020) – Secured conviction in a historic case involving allegations of serious sexual abuse and rape of a child.

R V K A (2021) – Prosecuted the brutal rape and sexual assault of a very elderly woman, who was raped in her own home. The allegation was so serious that it resulted in a life sentence being passed.

R v D T (2021) – The case involved allegations of significant violence, sexual allegations and rape up on a particularly vulnerable complainant. The defendant was convicted following trial and was sentenced to a significant extended sentence the court finding the defendant as dangerous.

R v Munemo and others (Operation Georgia – NERSOU) (2022) – Secured convictions against all five defendants in a complex mail intercept fraud, in which counsel had been involved throughout proceedings from charging decision to conviction. The case involved significant telecom and financial evidence.

Defence

R v J G (2020) – Successfully defended a young defendant charged with an allegation of rape and voyeurism, where the issue was capacity to consent.

R V M D (2021) – Instructed as leading counsel for the defence in a complex multi handed prosecution of an organized crime group relating to a firearms conspiracy.  The matter proceeded to trial and the defendant was acquitted.

R v C R (2021) – Defendant faced serious allegations of sexual offences against two separate complainants. The defendant was acquitted by the jury of all counts.

 

R v K S (2022) – Secured an acquittal following trial in respect of an allegation of Rape that involved the sensitive witness handling of a complainant who required the assistance of an intermediary.

 

R v O T (2022) – Secured acquittal following trial in respect of an historic allegation of the Rape of a Child under 13 when the issue was one of identification.

 

R v A K (2022) – Secured acquittal following trial in respect of an historic allegation of Rape of child under 13, involving sensitive cross-examination of the witness and detailed scrutiny of third-party records.
