Not guilty verdicts for veterinary student who took knives into Leeds Crown Court – Eleanor Durdy defends.

The Defendant attended Leeds Combined Court after being called as a witness to a road traffic collision in February 2023. At the security check point she handed over a box cutter knife and a wooden lock knife was then found in a zipped pocket of her bag. As a final year veterinary student, the defendant raised the defence of forgetfulness coupled with reasonable excuse. She pleaded not guilty to two counts of possessing a bladed article in a public place.

Eleanor Durdy  was invited to speak to Farmers Weekly  about how she is able to work on the family farm whilst maintaining her busy practice as a criminal and regulatory barrister. 

Eleanor is able to bring a unique perspective to her work in chambers with her hands on experience of farming benefitting clients when facing proceedings arising out of regulatory offences.

Katherine Robinson and Eleanor Durdy deliver “Communication in Court” workshop in the Maldives

The EU Project ‘Justice Sector Reform and Anti-Corruption in the Republic of Maldives’ delivered a workshop to members of the Maldives Bar on ‘Communication in Court’ on 24th and 25th August 2022 in Malé, Maldives.
To be a successful advocate one has to be an effective communicator. This course was designed to teach advocates how to become effective communicators, enhance both verbal and non-verbal skills and to realise their full potential as professional advocates.
The training was delivered by Katherine Robinson, a UK barrister. She has prosecuted and defended in all areas of criminal law, including terrorism, serious violence and sexual cases, multi defendant conspiracies and violenceand homicide. The workshop was part of a comprehensive program funded by the European Union and delivered by EU experts to institutions and legal practitioners in Maldives

Eleanor Durdy is co-opted on to the Yorkshire Agricultural Society Council.

Each year, the Society invites two younger farmers to join the Council for a three-year period, to assist and experience how the Society works. As part of her role, Eleanor will assist in the running of the Great Yorkshire Show, the Societies other commercial activities and with their charitable work, including farmer health checks and promoting careers in agriculture.
