This appointment comes as a result of Joe’s experience prosecuting and defending serious and complex crime on the North Eastern Circuit and his work as counsel to the UK Covid-19 Inquiry and the Undercover Policing Inquiry.
We are delighted to announce that Joseph Hudson has been appointed as a member of the counsel team to the Under Cover Policing Inquiry.
The work of the Inquiry which is chaired by Sir John Mitting covers the full scope of undercover policing work across England and Wales. Two undercover policing units – the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS) and the National Public Order Intelligence Unit (NPOIU) – have particular prominence for the Inquiry; however, its work is not restricted to these units.
The Inquiry will examine the contribution undercover policing has made to tackling crime, how it was and is supervised and regulated, and its effect on individuals involved – both police officers and others who came into contact with them.
Joe has been selected to join the Young Barristers’ Committee. The YBC is a committee of the Bar Council established to represent the interests of young barristers. Joe’s appointment follows a recruitment process during which emphasis was placed on the need for representation from the regions and from those practising in legally aided work.
