The defendant, Alan Bird, who suffocated his two-year-old son Lewis, leaving him with severe disabilities, has been jailed for his murder 21 years after the attack. Bird was originally jailed in 2002 after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent but was later charged with murder after his son died in 2019.
The defendant, Phillip Badwal, pleaded guilty to murder at his trial and was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years at Bradford Crown Court.
