Following his recent prosecution of ex Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, Richard Wright KC has appeared in today’s edition of The Times as their Lawyer of the week.

On Thursday 12th October Richard Wright KC appeared for the Prosecution at Southwark Crown Court of Former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone who pleaded guilty to an allegation of Fraud.

A man has been convicted of murdering a seven-year-old girl more than 30 years ago. David Boyd was found guilty at Newcastle Crown Court following a 3 week trial – he will be sentenced on 23 May.

On 29 November 2016 Lewis Skelton was fatally shot by a Firearms Officer serving with Humberside Police. At the inquest into his death the Coroner decided the issue of unlawful killing should be left to the jury and, on 15 October 2021, the jury unanimously concluded Mr Skelton had been unlawfully killed.

Richard Wright K.C. Was instructed on behalf of an interested party at the inquest into the tragic death of an 18 year old  student who died within hours of arriving at Newcastle University where she had been due to study urban planning and architecture.

Over 700 invited guests were including senior members of the judiciary, King’s Counsel, overseas judges and Law Officers of the Crown were in attendance.

The hearing covered appeals against very long extended determinate sentences, or special custodial sentences for an offender of particular concern, imposed for grave sexual offending.

The defendant, Alan Bird, who suffocated his two-year-old son Lewis, leaving him with severe disabilities, has been jailed for his murder 21 years after the attack. Bird was originally jailed in 2002 after admitting causing grievous bodily harm with intent but was later charged with murder after his son died in 2019.
