Aimilia Katsoulakis Prosecutes in Racially/Religiously Aggravated Harassment Case

On 8th August 2024, police were on high alert due to the potential for widespread trouble, sparked by calls on social media for radicals to target areas connected primarily with Islam.

The Defendant, along with his group, marched through the streets towards an Islamic Centre. Carrying the English flag, the Defendant swore and shouted, “what a stupid time to pray” and “don’t they have anything better to do”. He was further found in possession of fire lighters.

The Defendant pleaded guilty to charges including possession of an article with intent to destroy or damage property, racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress, and obstructing a police constable in the execution of their duty. On 22nd August 2024, the Defendant was sentenced to 26 months in custody at Crown Court, where Ms Katsoulakis prosecuted.
