Ben Thomas prosecutes on behalf of Craven District Council
Park Square BarristersThe Defendant company run a number of fish and chip shops and restaurants in Skipton.
The investigation resulted from an accident at work at the High Street branch in September 2018 when three employees suffered burn injuries resulting from an accident that occurred when the fat was being changed from the fryer at too high a temperature and when the store was open, both contrary to industry standard. As a result of the fat being changed at too high a temperature the bin collapsed and spilt hot fat onto members of staff.
I was instructed from the start and advised as to steps to be undertaken in the investigation, upon the merits of prosecuting when the investigation had concluded and drafted the charges.
At the first hearing today the Defendant pleaded guilty on a full facts basis and was sentenced to a fine of £75 000 and ordered to pay the Council’s costs in full.
