fraud prosecution

Family Fraudsters not so Pet Friendly

Recently, David Dixon, leading Camilla Buck, successfully prosecuted a mother and son’s half a million pound fraud scam.

Following a private prosecution on behalf of Trading Standards for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Mechelle and Ian Chatfield entered guilty pleas for committing fraud by misrepresentation in excess of half a million pounds.

The pair ran an online business selling pet related goods over a number of years. They defrauded customers by “double dipping” into their customers’ bank accounts. The pair would utilise the payment details obtained legitimately, using them illegitimately as to obtain substantial profits. The mother and son attempted to defraud customers in the sum of £571,388.

Mechelle and Ian Chatfield are due to be sentenced later this month.
