Glenn Parsons obtains conviction in one punch GBH trial

Glenn Parsons obtains conviction against a defendant who had previously punched a man to death.

The 41 year old defendant, Paul Thompson had pursued the victim’s friend out of a pub in Driffield following a minor altercation.

The victim stood in between the  two males in the car park and witnesses were to say how the defendant then punched the victim with a ‘haymaker’ as he looked away.  The victim was caught completely off guard and went straight to the floor  banging his head and fracturing his skull which lead to a bleed on the brain causing his brain to swell.

The jury, who rejected the defendant’s claims that he was acting in self-defence, were told after the trial that Thompson had been convicted of Manslaughter 20 years earlier following an incident where he had punched a man to death in the street in a similar unprovoked attack.

Thompson was jailed for 3 years.
