Holly Clegg and Nathan Davis prosecute complex multi-handed drugs conspiracy and money laundering case

The case involved a large-scale investigation into a conspiracy to supply cannabis. The conspiracy involved high ranking Organised Crime Gang members who were involved in a conspiracy to supply cannabis. This included organising and setting up various cannabis farms, directing the farmers who were tending to the plants and subsequently organising the distribution and onward sale of the drugs.
The trial also involved a substantial amount of complex evidence in relation to two counts of money laundering faced by Trang Nguyen. These counts related to the laundering of nearly £500,000 in cash deposits that comprised both her proceeds from supplying cannabis, alongside her running of an illegitimate and illegal foreign currency exchange business, transferring money between the UK and Vietnam.
All defendants were sentenced on 16th August 2024. Trang Nguyen was sentenced to 5 years and 4 months’ imprisonment, Sarwat Mahamed was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months’ imprisonment and Daniel Ho was sentenced to 2 years’ imprisonment.
