Kama Melly KC and Charlotte Worsley KC attend RCJ event celebrating 75 years since the first female took silk.

The event was attended by more than 300 current and former female Kings Counsel at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

Rose Heilbron and Helena Normanton were the first women to take silk in 1949, 30 years after it became legal for women to become barristers.

Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr spoke at the event and said “We still, of course, have much to do in improving gender diversity at the bar. Women are generally well represented in the legal professions although we still see fewer women in the top positions”.

Lady Justice King took silk in 1999 and was a member of No6 before she was appointed a High Court Judge in 2008 and a Court of Appeal Judge in 2014.
