Leeds gunman who shot at shopkeeper in armed robbery jailed for 25 years – Chris Dunn prosecutes

The defendant, Benjamin Mills, was involved in two violent armed robberies in 2018.

In the first incident Mills, along with his co-accused Ruwen James, entered a shop with a pistol and grabbed a customer threatening to shoot him. Money and cigarettes were handed over. Mills left the shop but then returned firing his gun – the bullet narrowly missing the shopkeeper.

A few days later, Mills was involved in an armed kidnapping at a house in Woodhouse.

Again, Mills fired his gun in the building and then pistol whipped the victim causing a head injury.

Mills faced two trials and was convicted over both incidents at Leeds Crown Court.

Chris Dunn prosecuted the case.

Sentencing Mills to 25 years in jail, Recorder Abdul Iqbal QC said “these long sentences of imprisonment will provide significant protection for the public in the future”

The co-defendant Ruwen James, who had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing, was jailed for 6 years for robbery, having a bladed article and making threats with a bladed article.
