Leeds man convicted for the murder of his wife Eileen Barrott- Craig Hassall QC and Holly Clegg prosecute
Park Square BarristersMark Barrott, husband of local NHS nurse Eileen Barrott, struck his wife with a hammer before strangling her to death and fleeing to Scotland.
After a large-scale manhunt, the Defendant was located several days later hiding in the confessional booth of Pluscarden Abbey, a Monastery in Northern Scotland.
During the two week trial, the Defendant raised the partial Defence of Diminished Responsibility, claiming that his wife had been possessed by a demon at the time of her death. The Jury unanimously rejected his account and convicted him of Murder. He will be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on 08 August 2022.
