Man jailed for life for brutal Durham hammer murder – Richard Wright QC and Michael Collins prosecute

A man who beat his friend to death with a hammer following a drunken row has been jailed for life at Teesside Crown Court.

Marty Bates murdered John Littlewood in Durham inn July 2019.

Richard Wright QC led Michael Collins for the prosecution.

Bates was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday by The Recorder of Middlesbrough, Judge Paul Watson QC.

Bates will serve a minimum of 24 years.
