“Premier League crime” – Julian Jones prosecutes

Faaris Zaman was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for his role in a major class A drugs conspiracy prosecuted under the umbrella of Operation Venetic, an investigation stemming from the cracking by the National Crime Agency of the encrypted Encrochat telephone application.

The evidence showed Mr Zaman to be dealing in excess of 25 Kg of class A drugs and laundering £1.3 million. Having been arrested initially in 2020, he was subsequently found hiding in his parents’ loft when Police came to re-arrest him in late 2023. In excess of £80,000 in cash was found and seized.

Mr Zaman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a total sentence of 11 years and 7 months’ imprisonment. The conduct was described by Julian Jones, prosecuting, as “premier league crime” and the role of Mr Zaman as being one of a “significant and trusted operator”.
