Richard Wright QC Defends Former Coldstream Guard Cleared of Murder and Manslaughter
Park Square BarristersFollowing a trial at Newcastle Crown Court, former soldier Karl Pascoe was cleared of allegations of murder and manslaughter in less than 30 minutes. The case was complicated by the defendant having previously been convicted of assaulting the deceased in a separate trial. This meant that the burden of proving his innocence rested on the defendant to a significant extent. Richard Wright QC cross-examined the prosecution medical experts and established that the death might not have been the result of the original assault. The jury took less than 30 minutes in retirement to unanimously clear the defendant of both murder and manslaughter.
Richard Wright QC was instructed in the case to lead Flora Page of 23 Essex Street by David Osborne and Kim Evans of Old Bailey Solicitors.
David Osborne praised Richard Wright QC for his hard work on the case:
“His preparation is without parallel at the senior Bar – a solicitor’s dream”
“His deep knowledge of the law is matched by a sublime sense of the mood of the court. A great advocate for the most serious cases.”
Richard Wright QC has extensive experience of cases involving causation and requiring the cross-examination of medical experts having recently appeared in the case of Mohammed Zaman, a trial involving death as a result of a food allergy. He has also recently acted for servicemen in other homicide cases, including acting for Marine E in the notorious case of the murder of an Afghan insurgent.
