Richard Wright QC & Simon Batiste Secure Conviction of School Teachers who Sexually Abused Children in their Care

Richard Wright QC and Simon Batiste today successfully prosecuted Roy Lovatt and Roy Allen for a large number of sexual offences. Both worked at the Thorpe Arch Grange children’s home with Allen going on to be headmaster. Roy Lovatt was sentenced to a total of 28 years imprisonment for a catalogue of sexual offences against 6 different children during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Two of them were children at the home as well as four other children not connected to the school. Allen was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for the abuse of 4 children at the home. Following a 4 week trial they were convicted of many offences including multiple allegations of buggery.

The judge described the case as being “truly harrowing and emotional”. He also complemented the prosecution team on the manner in the way it was presented.
