Richard Wright QC Successfully Prosecutes Solider for Murder of ex-girlfriend

Following an 11 day trial at Newcastle Crown Court, Richard Wright QC successfully prosecuted soldier, Trimaan Dhillon, for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Alice Ruggles.

The case attracted national media interest as the tragic and barbaric details of the offence were bought before the Court.

Dhillon stalked Miss Ruggles and became obsessive when their relationship came to an end and the jury dismissed his account that her death was the result of an accident.

Delivering his closing speech to the jury Mr Wright QC accused Dhillon of “cocky bravado” and he added “This was no bizarre accident at her (Miss Ruggles) own hands, it was murder and Trimaan Dhillon is guilty of murder. Murder done in a jealous rage that accounts for the true brutality of her death”.

It took the jury 90 minutes to unanimously agree and return guilty verdicts.

HHJ Sloan QC sentenced Dhillon to a minimum life term of 22 years.
