Consultation on sentencing for health & safety offences

Sentencing Guidelines Council consultation on sentencing for health & safety offences

Members of Park Square Barristers’ regulatory & public team were recently invited to a discussion evening about the current Sentencing Guidelines Council consultation on sentencing for health & safety offences.

Craig Hassall, Tom Gent, David Dixon and Simon Batiste attended the event, organised by Eversheds LLP, for leading specialist health & safety barristers in the North. The event canvassed views from senior regulatory barristers from Leeds and Manchester to feed into Eversheds’ own response to the consultation.

The widely held view was that the proposed definitive guideline is likely to lead to a significant increase in sentences in this area, both in terms of the magnitude of fines for corporate defendants and in the use of custodial sentences for individuals.

Park Square Barristers’ regulatory & public law team includes several practitioners with specialist health & safety practices. Please contact Madeleine Gray on 0113 202 8603 for more details.
