Vicar jailed for abuse of 3-year-old girl – Julian Jones prosecutes, Kitty Colley defends

A vicar who sexually abused a 3-year-old girl has been jailed for 9 years and 7 months at Leeds Crown Court.

Gordon Newton, who worked in Batley, pleaded guilty to 12 offences. He will also be placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Julian Jones, who prosecuted the case, told the court that Newton was also in possession of 276 indecent images of children on his mobile phone.

Kitty Colley, who defended, said that Newton knew that his crimes were “disgusting and vile” and had “genuine remorse for his actions”
