Park Square Barristers are delighted to announce that Kate Batty has been appointed as a Circuit Judge.

The official announcement from the Courts & Tribunals Judiciary Department states:

 

“His Majesty King Charles the third has appointed Kate Rayfield to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the then Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Brandon Lewis MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.

The Lord Chief Justice has deployed her to the North Eastern Circuit, based at Kingston upon Hull Crown Court with effect from 08 November 2022.

Background Information

Kate Batty (nee Rayfield) will be known as Her Honour Judge Rayfield. She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2001 and called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 2011. She was appointed as a Recorder in 2020.

Kate Batty joined Number 6 chambers in 2011 from Henry Hyams Solicitors.

Since then her career at the Bar has flourished

Kate became a grade 4 prosecutor, a grade 4 RASSO prosecutor, Circuit Junior, Deputy Head of the PSQB Criminal Team and most recently a Recorder.

Kate has been involved in some of the highest profile criminal cases on Circuit over the past decade.

She was ranked in Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

Kate was a qualified pupil supervisor and has supervised tenants Eleanor Mitten and Celine Kart.

 

Kate has been a fantastic member of Chambers – we are very sad to see her go.

Kate’s appointment is fully deserved – it is a great personal achievement and another judicial appointment for chambers.
