Craig Hassall KC in successful murder prosecution.

At the conclusion of a trial before the Recorder of Leeds, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict of murder, following Lisa Ellwood’s stabbing of her husband Ryan.

The case required the jury to consider contested psychological and psychiatric evidence as to whether the offender’s responsibility was diminished by an abnormality of mental functioning. The offender also suggested that her 16-year-old child might have been involved in the fatal attack.

The offender was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years.

Craig led Stephen Grattage of Exchange Chambers. They were both instructed by Edmund Hall of CPS Yorkshire & Humberside.
