Lucy Brown secures acquittal in modern slavery case

Lucy Brown defended a young Vietnamese woman before Bradford Crown Court who was charged with production of cannabis. The defendant was found by police in an address where well over 300 cannabis plants were growing. She raised the statutory defence under s. 45 of the Modern Slavery Act. The court heard evidence that she had been trafficked to the UK and compelled to look after the cannabis farm, which was then targeted in a robbery. Following a three day trial the defendant was unanimously acquitted by the jury.

Lucy Brown is regularly instructed to represent defendants in the Crown Court in a range of matters. She is also a Grade 3 prosecutor.
