“Monster” sex offender jailed for over 17 years – Richard Woolfall prosecutes

A dangerous sex offender who raped a 5 year old boy has been sentenced to more than 17 years at Leeds Crown Court.

Richard Woolfall was instructed by Leeds CPS to prosecute the case.

The defendant, Gareth Briggs, had previous convictions for child sex offences and was the subject of a sexual harm prevention order when he attacked the boy.

Briggs pleaded guilty to Rape at his PTPH hearing in July.

The sentencing Judge, His Honor Judge Batiste told Briggs “you present an extremely high risk of causing serious harm”

Briggs was given an extended prison sentence totaling 17 years and nine months.
