Simon Clegg successful in contempt proceedings
Park Square BarristersSimon Clegg (instructed by Damien Rourke and Peter Smithson of Clyde & Co) represented Axa Insurance in High Court proceedings against Sean Batley, a window cleaner who sought to take advantage of a minor road traffic accident to advance a £500,000 claim.
Mr Batley was involved in a collision which caused only moderate damage to the vehicles involved, but he drastically inflated his claim by telling repeated lies and providing doctored invoices. Simon Clegg provided advice prior to initiating proceedings and appeared at the contempt hearing before HHJ Coe QC at the Royal Courts of Justice on 10 November 2021. Mr Batley was imprisoned for 7 months.
